Tom explaining operation of corn planter. |
Mavis Farm grain storage. |
Today we visited Mavis Farms
located in Ohio. The farm is owned by father, Gary Mavis, and son, Scott Mavis.
The farm has been in the family for four generations and started as dairy farm
and then a 600-acre hog farm. Today, the farm is a 3,500-acre grain operation
and specializes in growing corn and soybeans.
The Mavis’ were gracious and showed us their grain storage operation,
16-row planter, semi-tractor nurse trailer for applying pesticides and liquid
fertilizer, Scott’s improved seed placement business, and they discussed the
ins and outs of their farming operation.
